Attendees gather in the MSU Museum lobby for the ILN meetingMany thanks to all of you attended the Informal Learning Nework kickoff event on Tuesday, October 16, 2012.  We gathered at the MSU Museum to meet each other and discuss the great future ahead for this organization.  Dr. Gary Morgan, the MSU Museum Director, provided an official welcome, followed by a welcome and overview of plans for the evening by coordinator Denice Blair Leach.  We then worked together to brainstorm ideas about the ILN-MSU before enjoying dinner and a talk by special guest Nancy Finegood, Executive Director of the Michigan Historic Preservation Network.  Many good suggestions were made about potential directions to take the ILN-MSU and ways we might make an impact on campus and beyond.  Several people described making new contacts for continued discussion or collaboration.

One important question asked to the organizational coordinator during the evening was "What do you need from us right now?"  Responses included ideas for the next event and ideas about how to shape the governance of the ILN-MSU.  Upon reflection, things people interested in helping can do also include: 1) sharing information and/or resources about your informal learning efforts for the ILN website, 2) talking to the coordinator about hosting the next event at your campus location, 3) continuing to get the word out to colleagues about the ILN, and 4) if you haven't joined, joining!

We look forward to getting to know each other better.  For those of you who couldn't attend, we look forward to seeing you at the next event or staying in touch via email or Facebook.  A compilation of the ideas generated during the discussions will be emailed to all who have given me their contact information.  (If you would like this information and are not sure if we have your email address, simply send a note via the contact form.)  Please let us know if you need any information or have questions.
